March/April Progress Report

It's time to see what I've been up to this past month. Since I didn't do a progress report at the end of March I'm including both March and April in this one. I didn't buy nearly as many books as I thought I was going to. Turns out my library had most of them and it saved me A LOT of money.

Barely There - I polished this manuscript off at the beginning of March and sent it off to beta readers. I've never been so nervous and excited all at the same time. It's definitely a mixed feelings kind of experience. I'll have a future post regarding the feedback. I'm thinking it will be next Thursday's post.

Midnight Raynne - Edited on paper through chapter 29. I hope to have all of the chapters edited on my computer by the end of May and in the hands of my critique partners by mid May. I can start sending chapters out as I get them done. Hopefully I can have it ready for beta reading sometime towards in June. I have to give my critique partners time to look it over and myself time to make the suggested changes. :-) I'd really like to have this one polished for query by WriteOnCon. That way I have something to participate with and hopefully catch the eye of an agent. Fingers crossed!

MIA Writer

That would be me. Sorry I've been missing, but my life seems to have gotten a bit crazy and hectic. Between me getting sick, going out of town, lots of doctors visits between me and both kids, my daughter starting softball, and now her breaking a toe, things have been a bit insane. Not to mention the fact that I got slightly buried under library books. I found myself completely immersed in reading during my down time and kept forgetting that it was my blogging day, or I was busy running around.

So, where am I with my writing you ask? Ugh, not getting very far. With all of the above mentioned insanity I haven't had much time to do any editing. However, I'm planning on bringing myself back on line and back to sanity this week. It may prove to be a bit difficult as I'm chauffeuring my daughter to and from the bus stop as well as a couple doctor appointments this week, but I'm kicking myself back into gear.

On the reading front I'm doing okay, not where I'd like to be, but I'm getting there. As far as editing goes I have 21 chapters edited on paper and 14 to go. Of course once I finish on paper I have to start making those changes on the computer documents and then start sending them out to my critique partners for feedback. I actually can't wait to get Midnight Raynne ready for them to see. I've sent out Barely There to several writer friends, but it wasn't as far along as Midnight Raynne. I wanted to see where to go first before I get to the fifth round of edits and need major alterations on that one. Midnight Raynne is different, however. I had already edited it several times and I think overall it's further along than Barely There. So far only the first few chapters have been seen by a few of my writer friends.

I'm hoping that by mid-May I will have all of those edits done and my critique partners will have a chance to meet and get acquainted with Raynne. Until then I should be back on my regular blogging schedule.

Your Turn -> Do you ever find life overwhelming and have to back away from the online social scene simply to get things done?

April Releases

This month's list of releases is substantially smaller than March's. That's good for me as it gives me time to catch up on all of those March reads. :-)

The Last Echo (The Body Finder #3) by Kimberly Derting (4/17/12)

Why -> I absolutely loved the first two books in this series. I'm also curious to see how Violet's life changes as a result of events from the second book. I don't want to give anything away if you haven't read the first two books. So, give them a try. :-)

Whisper (Riley Bloom #4) by Alyson Noel (4/24/12)

Why -> When I read the first book in the Immortals Series, Evermore, I found myself very curious about the main character Ever's little sister, Riley. I was super excited when I found out that Noel was writing a middle grade series about Riley. I've read the first book in the series, Radiance, and loved it. I've since collected the next two books, Shimmer and Dreamland, and have them sitting on my shelf, patiently awaiting the arrival of the fourth and final book in the series. I'm planning a reading spree with these three books. I love to read a series all the way through. It's fun and satisfying as I don't have to wait for the next book to be released, nor do I tend to forget what has happened in a previous book.
